Latest Updates from Our Project:

Superstitious Snowshoe Hares
almost 4 years ago – Tue, May 12, 2020 at 07:45:16 PM

Snowshoe Hares and Tree-kangaroos tied with your votes last time so I broke the tie with votes from the update before that. Let’s get to know Superstitious Snowshoe Hares now!

Snowshoe Hares

Hares are seekers of truth, wishing to understand and reveal all levels of reality. Wildly wide array of methods are used to collect data in order to predict future events for the benefit of harefolk. Anything and everything can be predicted with enough data and experience! At least hares believe so. If a prediction is inaccurate, it only means that something was missed or misinterpreted – an issue fixed by collecting more data and honing the deciphering methods!

These predictions and their outcomes are resolved with a die roll in Dale of Merchants 3. While the hares can first look chaotic and random, preparing for multiple outcomes and benefitting from each is the key in getting the most out of their card effects. Or you could just try to get lucky without any preparation at all!

Playthrough with Paul Grogan

I will play a match with Paul Grogan from Gaming Rules! tomorrow at 17:00 UTC +3. Paul will live stream the match on his YouTube channel here.

Paul Grogan works on board game rulebooks and has an excellent YouTube channel where he hosts tutorials, playthroughs with designers, and other board game related content. He’s currently even donating his channel’s advertising revenue to charities fighting against COVID-19 so you should consider subscribing and helping out.

Usually Paul charges for Kickstarter coverage but he was so interested in Dale of Merchants that he’s making an exception here. If you find Paul’s content valuable for you, you can also support him on Patreon.

The second poll has been started! Now you get to decide which bird makes an appearance on the game’s market board.

Featherfolk poll

We received 162 suggestions for birds with 96 unique entries. Here’s the top 10 candidates we selected. Go vote for your favourites here!

The poll will close on the 15th of May, and until then you’re more than welcome to share the poll with your friends! I will livestream drawing the winner the same day. Check the more detailed schedule on the project page.

You can still suggest your favourite mammals and amphibians here.

Video review from Quackalope

Jesse from Quackalope made another superb video about Dale of Merchants, this time covering the entire series! Be sure to check it out if you’re eager to learn more about the different games and what the series has to offer.

almost 4 years ago – Sun, May 10, 2020 at 02:14:37 AM

The reptile poll is now closed, and the winner is the Thorny Devil with 172 votes! There were a total of almost 500 voters. Thanks to everyone who voted!

Winner: Thorny Devil

Leopard Gecko took an early lead in the voting, but this spiky chap finished strong with a solid lead over the competition.

Congratulations to the little fella!

As promised, I will do a live stream as I draw the winner on the game’s market board. The stream begins in one hour at 10:00 UTC+3. Do drop by and say hi if you can!

Join the stream!

Sharing Short-beaked Echidnas
almost 4 years ago – Sun, May 10, 2020 at 02:12:58 AM

You made your voice heard: Sharing Short-beaked Echidnas were the crowd favourites and get introduced next!

Echidnas

These bohemian fellows might be spiky on the outside but inside they are anything but that. They are peaceful and relaxed, and shortly after meeting new folk, Echidnas are already calling them friends and loving the company. Life is at its best when shared with others and while enjoying culture in all of its forms. There’s no need for possessions – it’s more convenient to share belongings with everyone, without the burden that comes from owning earthly stuff.

Echidnas borrow items from everyone they consider a friend – so, basically anyone. But don’t worry! They always leave something else as a replacement. While it’s currently not raining and you see no use for an umbrella at the moment, it might start pouring any minute now! Just like that, cards are constantly moving between players when echidnas are around.

We got Desert Monitors on the front page of BoardGameGeek! Thank you for that! Maybe we can do the same for Echidnas?

An interview and a new preview video

I had a lovely chat with Andrew Holmes from Meeple Mountain a little while back. The interview is now live and you can read it here.

Also, Alex Singh from Bottom Shelf Board Games made an excellent preview of Dale of Merchants 3. Check out his short and sweet video below!

Archiving Desert Monitors
almost 4 years ago – Sun, May 10, 2020 at 01:56:46 AM

Once more we’re continuing our tradition of introducing all the animalfolk decks! This time, we begin with Archiving Desert Monitors.

Monitors

Cultural preservation is highly valued among Desert Monitors. Their enormous libraries and museums are full of literature covering wide range of topics from multiple centuries. If you’re interested in history, Desert Monitors have you covered. No tradition or occasion is too insignificant not to log into the history books!

Monitors excel at managing their discard piles. They may seem simplistic at first, but you will soon have your cards exactly where you need them, if you take a lesson and learn from the Desert Monitors!

It helps us greatly if you would be so kind and like the game and the image above over at BoardGameGeek. Both of these acts create more visibility for the game and get it in front of more people. I can only continue to create games for you to enjoy when I have your support. For that, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart.
